Explore the benefits of NSDR (non-sleep deep rest) with Dr. Andrew Huberman as your guide.

What is NSDR?

Non-sleep deep rest (NSDR for short) is a popular practice developed by Dr. Andrew Huberman to help people relax and unwind.

NSDR practices guide you while seated or lying down with your eyes closed, and often involve focus on your breathing and visualization exercises.

You can do NSDR at any time of the day—whether you need help falling asleep, an extra boost at the start of the day, or anytime in between.

  • Enhanced memory retention

  • Stress relief
  • Improved cognitive function, focus, and mental clarity
  • Enhanced sleep quality
  • Potential assistance in pain management

History of NSDR

‘NSDR’ was coined by neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman in 2022, to refer to a set of practices for achieving deep relaxation and restorative states without actually dozing off

NSDR was developed based on yoga nidra, a guided meditation that originated in India and has been a popular practice for centuries. While they both promote relaxation and rejuvenation and offer similar benefits, NSDR and yoga nidra aren’t exactly the same.
